“The Guwahati Municipal Corporation has repeatedly urged the residents of the city to be vigilant and responsible in garbage disposal,” GMC posted on X. “We are always ready to take such punitive action against any person or institution who ignores our calls and violates the rules.”

First, a resident of Paltan Bazar was fined ₹80,000 for dumping garbage on the road. This was followed  by a penalty of ₹50,000 imposed on a well-known shopping mall on G.S. Road for operating without a valid trade license.

Officials have warned that such violations will not be tolerated, urging individuals and businesses to adhere to preset civic norms. With increasing urbanisation and rapid development, the municipal body also stressed that maintaining cleanliness is a collective responsibility of the public.

The authorities have stated that strict enforcement will continue to ensure compliance with civic regulations.
