Talking to GPlus, Ankur Deka, a resident of Lachit Nagar said, "I am really worried about the sudden increase in mosquitoes. It's strange because we usually don't face this issue before summer kicks in. Now, mosquitoes are everywhere, bothering us at home and even at work, which wasn't the case before."
Attributing the surge in mosquito activity to neglect of fogging and larvicide spraying, residents also pointed fingers at poorly maintained storm water drains.
"Many dug-up areas and clogged drains in our neighborhood are providing perfect breeding spots for mosquitoes," said Deepak Das from Zoo Road, underscoring the worsening mosquito problem in the area.
Talking to GPlus, a resident of Jyotikuchi seeking annonymity said, "I have definitely noticed more mosquitoes around lately, and it's frustrating because the usual repellents don't seem to work anymore. I believe the lack of fogging initiatives is to blame for the sudden surge in mosquito activity."
Taking to X, a user posted, "Despite complaining, @gmc_guwahati from last quite a few years has stopped the fogging of our area. But when it comes to Property Tax Collection, they never fail to visit every year, enquiring if I have paid it or not. I think this service of fogging is only for VVIP areas !"
Another user taking to X posted, "Lachitnagar is famous for mosquito menace togather with dust from never-ending construction."
GMC officials, however, assured that they have been actively carrying out spraying and fogging as part of their anti-dengue measures.
Talking to GPlus, Mrigen Sarania, the mayor of GMC said, "We are actively fogging the affected areas. Six teams from GMC are dedicated to this task, and we respond to all complaints by conducting fogging operations."
