After the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Betkuchi and Khanapara, the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) has decided to construct another ISBT at Jalukbari to decongest the traffic inside the city.
A source in ASTC, speaking to GPlus, said that the bus terminus at Paltan Bazar will be taken over by the Northeast Frontier Railway for a second gate, and the ASTC will be provided with land at Jalukbari where a new ISBT will be constructed.

In order to ease the movement of passenger traffic traveling to Guwahati Railway Station and to decongest the Paltan Bazar area, the Assam government has approved the construction of a second entryway to the railway station through Paltan Bazar.
ASTC will receive an equal value of land on an EVL (Equitable Value of Land) basis at the NFR’s Jalukbari land and the depreciated value of its existing office structures at Paltan Bazar, which constitutes a total land area of 4 bighas, 4 kathas, and 19 lessas. The railway has already allotted the land to ASTC, but due to legal issues, the possession of the land has not been taken yet.
The ASTC source said that as soon as possession of the land is taken, work on the ISBT will begin.
Buses that enter the city and reach Adabari, Machkhowa, and Paltan Bazar will be stationed at Jalukbari. Buses from Lower Assam can ply from the Jalukbari ISBT, buses from other parts of the state can use the ISBTs at Khanapara and Betkuchi, and the entire Guwahati city will be decongested, said the source.
