GMC Conducts Eviction Drive in Fancy Bazar, 2 Restaurants Closed Down

GUWAHATI: Guwahati Municicipal Corporation along with the Commissionerate of Police carried out massive drive against the pavement encroachers, unhyginic food stalls, restaurants to ramp up the outbreak of COVID 19 and other bottle neck which led to traffic congestion at Fancy bazar.

The drive was conducted from 9:00 AM till 5:00 PM.

It is to be mentioned that today was the 5th day of evection drive conducted by the GMC officials.

The action on the ground started as soon the administration swung into action removing encroachments including structures, compounds retrieving entire footpath of fancy bazaar area. With the assistance of around 60 city police and traffic personnel, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation along with Commissionerate of Police evicted around 132 unauthorised shops. During the eviction drive encroachments including cabins, extensions sheds, bamboo structures were removed. 

Health Branch of Guwahati Municipal Corporation along FSSAI has closed down 2 restaurants/Food Corner namely RK Hotel, Sharma Chat House for not adhering to food safety norms.

The team imposed penalty of Rs 14000 on 22 nos of shops including Lakhi cabin, sweet chilli etc.

Guwahati Municipal Corporation appeals the citizens of the Guwahati City not to buy food items which is not prepared and sold hygienically at footpath etc as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.
