GUWAHATI: In a major administrative reshuffle, thirteen civil service officers have been transferred in Assam on August 27.

Amongst them is the Commissioner of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Devajyoti Hazarika. After holding office as the Commissioner for a mere four months, Hazarika has been posted as the Secretary to the Government of Assam, Public Enterprises Department, and as State Enquiry Officer.

In his place, Ghanshyam Das, who had been holding office of the Commissioner of Labour is appointed as the new GMC Commissioner.

Speaking exclusively to G Plus, Devajyoti Hazarika stated that he received the order but was unaware as to why he was removed from office in just four months as reasons of such transfers are not stated in the order.

GDD minister, Siddharth Bhattacharya informed G Plus that Hazarika has, in fact, been promoted and the current office as the Secretary to the State Government is in pursuance of his elevated IAS status.

"Devajyoti Hazarika's transfer is among a list of other transferred. It's kind of a chain reaction of the other reshuffles that were ordered. And he has been given a promotion," said Bhattacharya.
