George Bordoloi’s Son Accuses DBU Vice Chancellor Of Driving His Father To Suicide

GUWAHATI: Assam-style dhaba pioneer George Bordoloi’s son Pattrich Bordoloi has claimed that Don Bosco University’s Vice Chancellor Stephen Mavely falsely accused his father of felling 800 trees. He accused the University’s Vice Chancellor of harassment and abetting his father's suicide, said Pattrich to the media in Guwahati on Tuesday, May 24.

Pattrich has rejected all allegations leveled against the father-son duo and claimed that his father was a nature lover and would never fell trees. He claimed that his father was someone who grew and nurtured trees and would have never cut them.

He goes on to say, “My father and I also visited Father Mavely three months back and told him personally that we did not chop down any trees. My father even mentioned in the meeting that if you keep on harassing us, I will have no other option but to commit suicide.”

George Bordoloi’s son alleged that his father felt humiliated after receiving the court's summon of Father George Mavely’s allegations against him. He says, “My father became very depressed because of the allegations. He was not a greedy person. On the contrary, everyone knew him as a good person and nature lover. He was a popular figure who had built a reputation for himself in Assam. He felt humiliated after receiving such serious allegations and was depressed over the last few months.”

Furthermore, Pattrich Bordoloi said that elephants uprooted the said trees. He states, “You can even see footprints of elephants in the area in which we are accused of felling trees.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) East Guwahati Sudhakar Singh spoke to G Plus and said, “Father Stephen Mavely has been arrested today and produced in court. Further investigation will follow after the court sends a remand copy.”

The DCP East Guwahati said, “The family says the deceased took the extreme step after struggling with mental harassment because of Don Bosco University’s Vice Chancellor Stephen Mavely’s allegations against him and his son."
