GUWAHATI: Gauhati University has implemented menstrual leave for female students, aligning with directives from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), Government of India.
The university, through a notification dated November 9, and subject to ratification in the Executive Council, has decided to grant a 2 per cent relaxation in minimum class attendance for female students under the category of “menstrual leave.”
According to the directive, female students will now be required to maintain a minimum class attendance of 73 per cent to be eligible to sit in semester examinations.
This policy aims to recognise and address the unique challenges faced by female students during their menstrual cycles, promoting inclusivity and acknowledging the importance of their well-being.
