GUWAHATI: The police on Thursday detained a temporary employee of Gauhati University on charges of extorting money from students. The accused, identified as Ankur Barman, was apprehended from the university premises earlier in the day.

Barman, who was employed in the office of the Controller of Examinations, allegedly solicited money from students under the guise of providing various services. Police investigations revealed that he had been involved in such activities for an extended period.
Talking to GPlus, a police official from Jalukbari Outpost said, “Barman was an employee of Gahuati University who used to extort funds from different students. We arrested him yesterday and he is now currently in custody.”
