Gauhati Press Club Condemns Police Action Against Journalists

GUWAHATI: On December 18, the Gauhati Press Club has strongly condemned the police for using tear gas shells against journalists covering a political event in the city today. Footage from the scene clearly shows that the tear gas was deployed in areas where reporters and videographers were stationed, leading to injuries among several journalists. These journalists were later treated for their injuries.

This latest incident is part of a trend, with journalists frequently becoming victims of such actions while on duty in various parts of the state. 

The Gauhati Press Club has called on both civil and police authorities to take immediate steps to prevent such incidents from recurring. They also suggested that police and other law enforcement personnel involved in crowd control should receive proper training on how to handle such situations without harming the media professionals present.

In response to the repeated assaults on journalists, the Gauhati Press Club has urged all media persons to wear black badges tomorrow in protest.
