GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has suspended Ranju Medhi, Additional District & Sessions Judge of Sonitpur, with immediate effect as of Monday, September 2, 2024.

This action comes after recent bribery allegations and will remain in place while departmental proceedings are conducted.
Medhi, currently the Special Judge POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) in Sonitpur, must remain in Tezpur and cannot leave without prior court approval.
During his suspension, the District & Sessions Judge of Sonitpur will oversee the court and office of the Additional District & Sessions Judge, as stated in the notice.
The High Court order states, “As directed, Pending initiation of departmental proceeding, Shri Ranju Medhi, Additional District & Sessions Judge, Sonitpur, Tezpur (now working as Special Judge POCSO, Sonitpur, Tezpur) is placed under suspension with immediate effect. Upon suspension, Headquarter of Shri Medhi shall be at Tezpur, Sonitpur. He shall not leave the station without prior permission of the Honble Gauhati High Court. During the period of suspension, the District & Sessions Judge, Sonitpur at Tezpur will be in-charge of the court and office of the Additional District & Sessions Judge, Sonitpur, Tezpur.”
