GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court directed the Assam Government to conduct sample test of 'Pan Masala' products available in the market.
The test will be done in order to check whether the 'Pan Masala' products contain harmful chemicals like magnesium carbonate (MgCO3) which causes cancer and other diseases.
This decison came in to a response to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Jitul Deka, general secretary of Asomiya Yuva Mancha seeking the court’s intervention in banning manufacture, supply and sale of 'Pan Masala' in Assam.
Deka also urged the High Court to constitute a special team under the supervision of the high court for the purpose.
