GUWAHATI: In a recent development, the eagerly awaited elections at Gauhati Commerce College have been abruptly cancelled.
The decision to cancel the elections was conveyed through an official notice, which cited concerns about maintaining the college's academic atmosphere and ensuring a smooth educational environment. Consequently, it was announced that the entire election process stands null and void.
The notice, issued by the college authorities, stated, "As reported by the Returning Officer, it appears that the smooth conduct of the ensuing GCCSU 2023-24 Election scheduled on 9th of October, 2023 will not be feasible, as it might vitiate the academic atmosphere of the college."
This development comes after 200 students of Gauhati Commerce College staged a protest over the upcoming student elections within their institution. The primary grievance that triggered the protest which was staged on Tuesday revolved around troubles and irregularities encountered during the candidate selection process.
“All HS & B.Com. Examinations (Unit Test & Sessional) will be held as per the declared schedule i.e. from 9th of October, 2023,” the notice further stated.
