The fraudulent operation lured individuals into a fake membership programme, claiming to offer extra income. Victims were persuaded to purchase household items worth between ₹2,000 and ₹3,000 and encouraged to recruit others, expanding the scheme further.

Furthermore, the scheme promised members ₹100 for each new recruit and supplied pearl-like beads for making necklaces, with an assurance of ₹400 per completed set of 40 necklaces.

However, investigations revealed that Laskar was unable to provide any legal documentation for the business. Police also discovered that all transactions were carried out exclusively in cash.

Speaking to GPlus, an official from Dhubri police station said, “A fraudulent scheme was dismantled. The individual, Akram Hussain Lasklar lured individuals into fake membership in a pearl necklace business. Investigation is underway to determine the larger network of the fraudulent scheme.”

A raid at the site led to the recovery of over ₹2 lakh in cash, exposing the scale of the deception. Many women, hoping to achieve financial stability, had unknowingly fallen prey to the scam.

Further details are awaited.
