Former Assam CM Syeda Anwara Taimur Passes Away

GUWAHATI: Former chief minister of Assam, Syeda Anwara Taimur, breathed her last on September 28. 


Assam's lone woman Chief Minister, Syeda Anowara Taimur was a leader of the Indian National Congress party in Assam and a member of the All India Congress Committee. She served as the chief minister from 6 December 1980 to 30 June 1981.


Taimur was residing in Australia with her son, and she had been ailing for a long period of time.
 

Her death has been widely mourned cutting across party lines. 


"A big loss for us all as former CM Syeda Anwara Taimur breathed her last. An able administrator and affable people's person, Syeda Mam was the only woman CM of Assam. A 4-term MLA, she had an illustrious political career spanning over 4 decades. My prayers & condolences," tweeted Himanta Biswa sarma, health and finance minister of Assam.
