GUWAHATI: Nanda Babu Singh, the former principal controller of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) examinations and a key figure in the infamous recruitment scam, was granted bail on January 2.

The development comes after a special court extended the bail to Nanda Babu Singh, who had been implicated in the scandal related to the burning of around 45,000 answer sheets of APSC preliminary and main exams, as per reports.

Talking to GPlus, Prateek Thube, Joint Commissioner Of Police confirmed saying, “Nanda Babu has been granted bail and further investigations are underway.”

According to earlier reports, Nanda Babu Singh was detained from his residence in Silchar on December 11 in connection to the APSC cash-for-job scam. The arrest followed two consecutive days of interrogation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police.

Initially, Singh was remanded to three-day police custody on December 13. Subsequently, after the completion of his police custody term, he was produced before the court. Reportedly, since the SIT did not seek an extension of Singh's custody, he was sent to judicial custody on December 15.
