GUWAHATI: Spurious canon parts are being sold in Guwahati markets and a police complaint has been filed by the authorised distributor of Canon at Paltan Bazar Police Station.

Alamgir Munshi, manager (operations) of C3i consultants representing Canon Inc, Japan, in a police complaint mentioned that while conducting a market survey it was noticed that various persons in Guwahati markets are in the manufacturing/dealing and selling of spurious/counterfeit Canon parts and packing material purportedly manufactured by M/S Canon Inc.

The complainant stated, “The counterfeiters are also violating the sections of the "Trademark and Copyright Act."

Sources in the police said that a shop named Prime Infosys, located at Maa Durga Commercial Complex near Meghdoot Cinema hall was raided and many counterfeited Canon products were seized, especially toner cartridges of printers and photocopy machines.

Police sources also informed that the owner of Prime Infosys was detained at the time when this report was filed.

Munshi talking to G Plus said that Canon had directly received complaints against Prime Infosys. “The customers can never identify that it is a duplicate Canon product. The packaging is done so well that many customers are duped,” said Munshi.
