GUWAHATI: According to the daily bulletin of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), over 5,000 more people have been impacted by the devastating floods in Assam over the past 24 hours, bringing the total affected population to over 34,000 across seven districts in the state.
A total of 15,727 males, 14,675 females, and 3,787 kids are among the total affected population, according to the ASDMA bulletin.
The Lakhimpur district has been the worst hit thus far, with the first wave of the flood affecting over 23,000 people there.
According to the daily bulletin of the Central Water Commission (CWC), the Brahmaputra river at Nimati Ghat in the Jorhat district of upper Assam continued to flow above the danger level on Friday.
The water level was 0.08 m above the danger level of 85.62 m. On the other hand, the Puthimari River is flowing above the danger level in the Kamrup District, while the Jia Bharali and Brahmaputra Rivers are in Sonitpur, the Kopili River is in Nagaon, the Pagladiya River is in Nalbari, the Beki River is in Barpeta, and the Subansiri River is in Lakhimpur.
Kopili, which was flowing above average in Nagaon, is predicted by the CWC to cross the danger level by Saturday and stay above it for five days.
According to the commission, the Barak River in the Barak Valley will likely reach a dangerous level within the next 48 hours.
Very heavy rainfall is expected in Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Nalbari, Darrang, Dhemaji, and Lakhimpur in the next 48 hours, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
