GUWAHATI: Five Indian Army soldiers, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), lost their lives after their tank was swept away by rising waters in the Shyok River near Saser Brangsa, eastern Ladakh. The unfortunate event occurred on Friday night, June 28, during a military de-induction exercise, according to media reports.

The accident happened while the soldiers were de-inducting from a training activity of getting the tank across the river. The sudden increase in the water level of the Shyok River caused the tank to get stuck.
Despite the response from rescue teams, the strong currents and high water levels hampered efforts, and the mission to save the crew was unsuccessful. The Indian Army confirmed that rescue operations are ongoing to recover the bodies.
