First Guwahati Premier Football League To Commence From December 10

GUWAHATI: Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) announced the kick-off date for the first edition of the 'Guwahati Premier Football League' during a press meet held in the Gauhati Town Club on Friday.

The first-ever Guwahati Premier Football League will commence from December 10 which will further continue for a month. A total of 14 teams will participate in this football extravaganza. The entire league will be organised in the Judges Field of Guwahati.

The matches will take place in both day and night and people will be allowed to go watch the matches.

The event was graced by dignitaries such as Paresh Chandra Das, President GSA, Devajit Saikia, General Secretary, GSA and other executive members of the association.

Speaking to the media, Devajit Saikia, General Secretary, of GSA, said, "This is an attempt to upgrade the football structure of Guwahati. For the overall development of this sport such events are very crucial. It will provide a platform for institutional football clubs which will further broaden the scope of players for better employment opportunities."

He further mentioned that there will be a live streaming platform named 'Fancode' which will cover the football matches.

The winner of this league will get a sum of ₹15 lakh. The prize money for the first runner-up is ₹10 lakh and the bottom teams of the top four will receive a sum of ₹2.5 lakh respectively. Apart from that there will be recognitions like Golden Boot, Golden Gloves, and a Man of the Match for every game.

Meanwhile, the trophy unveiling and curtain raiser are scheduled on December 9 on the premises of Gauhati Town Club Auditorium. The event will be graced by Ashok Singhal, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Assam and GP Singh, Director General of Police, Assam.

The opening ceremony will start from 12:30 PM on Sunday. Assam Chief Minister and other dignitaries will be present to flag off the league.

The teams will be divided into two clusters. 

Cluster A:

North East United Football Club, North East Frontier Railway Sports Association, Numaligarh Refinery Limited, Food Corporation of India, DBI, Young Amateur Club, GPlus Athletic

Cluster B:

Oil India Limited, ASEB Sports Club, United Chirang Duar FC, Assam Police, Pride East Mavericks, Gauhati Town Club, Barekuri FC
