First Guwahati Commissioner of Police Takes Retirement

GUWAHATI: The first commissioner of police (CP) of Guwahati Jyotirmay Chakravarty has taken retirement.

Chakravarty took charge as the Guwahati CP on January 1, 2015 and held the office till 16 June, 2015.

Before being appointed as the CP, Chakravarty was serving as the Additional Director General of Police.

Announcing the voluntary retirement, Jyotirmay Chakravarty posted a heartfelt note on Facebook.

"Bidding adieu to my uniform! It was a long association of 34 years. Hung up my boots yesterday...took voluntary retirement. It was not a decision taken all of a sudden. It was playing in my mind for nearly a year. Some of my friends may be wondering why. I only wish to say - I believe that we do what we choose to do. The sole exception to this rule is when we do something unknowingly. I chose to join the IPS at one point of time, and have chosen to leave at another. There are no regrets, no complaints. But I shall remain a humble servant to the society and to the country in my own personal capacity," Chakravarty wrote.
