Fire Guts Multiple Shops In Nagaon, Properties Worth Lakhs Destroyed

GUWAHATI: A fire broke out in the Old Bridge area of Haibargaon, Nagaon on the late night of December 3, gutting various establishments in the area.

Multiple shops and business establishments were torched in the market area as the fire spread from what is suspected to be an electrical wiring short-circuit in the area.

Speaking to GPlus, a police official from Haibargaon Police Station said, “We suspect it to be a short circuit case. The fire ravaged and quickly started increasing as there were various furniture shops nearby that also came under the fire and the flammable items kept there probably helped the inferno grow.”

Valuables worth lakhs were consumed by the unprecedented fire, as per sources.

Several other neighbouring shops also bore the brunt of the incident. Eight fire tenders arrived at the scene, managing to extinguish the blaze successfully. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or casualties. Further details are awaited.
