GUWAHATI: A house was consumed by flames during Diwali festivities at Zoo Road's Sonali Path on November 13.
According to eyewitnesses, there were a few youngsters who were bursting crackers near the house, when a portion of the property caught fire.
The incident occurred yesterday at around 10-10:15 PM, and locals are claiming that fire officials had arrived very late and by that time the fire had almost been doused.
Speaking to GPlus, a police official from Geetanagar said, "There were no casualties. It was a very minor fire."
The official added that some residents alleged that the entire incident may have been triggered by a defective Sky Lantern lit nearby. However, people also alleged that firecrackers, suspectedly thrown from the Shraddhanjali Flyover, could have been a contributing factor.
As of now, the police officials are interrogating the nearby locals to get a consolidated answer about the issue and further details will be provided after the investigation.
