GUWAHATI: An FIR has been registered against All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Abul Kalam Azad at Barpeta Police Station for allegedly raping a woman on several occasions.
Azad represents Barpeta district’s Bhabanipur constituency and had also given death threats to the victim, as per reports.

According to media reports, the victim has alleged that the legislator had exploited her after promising her a party ticket to contest ward elections.
He later again sexually assaulted her on the pretext of offering her a job in Dispur.

On the other hand, Azad has appealed for interim bail to the Gauhati High Court and his bail hearing is scheduled on June 27.
