Female Candidates To Face Consent-Based Checks in Assam Recruitment Exams

GUWAHATI: Female candidates appearing for the Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) will continue to undergo frisking, but only with their permission, confirmed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday, September 21, during a visit to an under-contruction school in Bejera.

The frisking procedure, aimed at preventing cheating, will follow protocols similar to airport security checks. For those who opt out of frisking, separate exam halls with stricter supervision will be arranged.

The chief minister emphasised the importance of uniformity in security checks to avoid concerns from male candidates. "We cannot exclude checks just because they are female," Sarma stated.

This decision comes after a recent incident in Nalbari, where a female ADRE candidate described her frisking experience as inappropriate and distressing, leading to public outrage.

In addition, Sarma addressed concerns about dual appointments in the ADRE. Candidates will no longer be permitted to hold both Class III and Class IV positions. If selected for a Class III post, their Class IV application will be cancelled.

Sarma explained that in previous years, approximately 1,000 to 1,500 candidates had received dual appointments, and the government is taking steps to prevent this. He also mentioned the possibility of implementing a lottery system for appointments if necessary.
