GUWAHATI: Many fell for the April Fools' Day prank on social media platforms in Guwahati that a liquor shop in the city is extending home delivery services.
The post went viral on social media such as Facebook and WhatsApp and managed to garner a lot of attention among netizens.
To this Assam State Excise Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya said, “There are no such delivery services present and attempt of such delivery is a criminal offence under the provisions of the present law. I have asked the Excise Department officials to look into the matter and directed the wine shop authorities to lodge a cyber crime complaint against the one spreading such fake news.”
Further numerous incidents in the past have been reported wherein citizens fall for such offers and end up giving away their hard own money, as a result of hacking.
It is to be mentioned that certain sections of social media, over the past few days, had witnessed the name of one H.D Wine Shop in Guwahati for home delivery of liquor.
The current situation will continue till April 14.
