Explosion Near Army Camp In Jorhat, ULFA-I Allegedly Claims Responsibility

 

GUWAHATI: An explosion was reported in close proximity to the Lichubari Military Camp in Jorhat, Assam, on Thursday evening. The United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) has allegedly claimed responsibility for the grenade blast that reverberated through the streets of Jorhat. 

The incident occurred in close proximity to the Lichubari Military camp at approximately 7:30 PM on December 14, causing a temporary shutdown of shops and business establishments.

According to initial information, a loud explosion was heard near the military camp, leading to a state of chaos in the surrounding area.

As a precautionary measure, the main gate of the Lichubari Military Camp was promptly closed in the aftermath of the explosion, according to reports. 

ULFA-I Chief Paresh Baruah, in a phone call to a local news channel, acknowledged his group's involvement in the explosion, according to media reports. 

Media reports stated that there were two individuals on a motorcycle who targeted the army camp by hurling a grenade.

Local police officials arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Fortunately, there have been no reports of human casualties or injuries resulting from the blast.
