GUWAHATI: An eviction drive was carried out in parts of Guwahati, ranging from Khanamukh and Lankeshwar to 7 mile till the Jalukbari Outpost. Approximately 100 shops which were set up illegally by vendors were demolished by the Kamrup (Metro) District Administration.

This comes after an order by the Gauhati High Court (HC) ordering the demolishment of illegal encroachments on government land.

These eviction drives were part of the previously conducted eviction drives conducted by the administration at the Shani Mandir premises in Khanapara. This was informed to G Plus by Circle Officer (CO) of Guwahati Revenue Circle, Aditya Gogoi.

“We have conducted the eviction drives as per an order by the Gauhati HC. We have successfully evicted nearly 100 shops including those of vegetable vendors and other street vendors. We had also previously conducted another drive in the Dispur area,” added Gogoi.
