GUWAHATI: An incident unfolded at the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) as a female student succumbed to her injuries after jumping from the eighth floor of a hostel building on Wednesday, January 22.

The deceased has been identified as Puspita Das, a 20-year-old first-year BTech student hailing from Assam. Following the incident, Das was immediately rushed to the Central Referral Hospital (CRH). However, despite the efforts of medical professionals, she was pronounced dead.
The police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities are working to uncover potential reasons behind the tragedy, but further details remain pending as the inquiry continues.
