Emergency Flight Service To Begin Between Silchar - Guwahati Due To Heavy Rainfall

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has decided to operate emergency flight services between Silchar and Guwahati at subsidised rates through the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) due to the sudden spike of air fares.

The Government will provide this facility at Rs 3,000 through the ATDC. As approved by the Cabinet, the ATDC will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard with Fly Big airline, which is already providing regional connectivity in Assam and North-East states, an official notification read.

The decision comes after the fare of air tickets have substantially increased due to the communication between Barak Valley with the rest of the State and country has been affected in the recent flood and massive landslide caused by heavy rainfall in the last few days. The Railway route connecting Lumding with Badarpur in Barak Valley is completely disrupted as heavy rainfall in Dima Hasao has uprooted tracks and bridges causing massive damage to the Railway infrastructure.

Further, air tickets will be available at a special counter at the DC Office, Cachar, and ATDC's head office at Paltan Bazaar, Guwahati. Tickets can be booked through calling at mobile number- 8135902973 and 8638023921. Payment can be made through UPI - GooglePay on 8135902973.
