The fear is consistent and growing among the locals as the menace continues both during the day and night. People have lost a lot of property and crops due to the elephants damaging everything in their path. Many locals have resorted to various means to deter and scare away the pachyderms but seldom have worked.

Residents also state that they have alerted the authorities regarding this matter, but no support has been provided as of yet.

Talking to GPlus, a local said, “We are very worried of this current situation. There has been no loss of human life this time around but major loss to property has been incurred. We have alerted the Forest Department officials multiple times, they come but do not take any meaningful action. No officials or authorities have aided us in this matter. We are in a huge problem at the moment.”

The area of Dhamdhama in Baksa is close to Manas National Park and Bhutan border, which is from where the elephants are suspected to come.
