Elephant killed In Assam After Being Hit By Train

GUWAHATI:A wild elephant was killed after being hit by the Kanchanjunga Express near Jagiroad in Morigaon district of Assam on Wednesday, July 10.

According to reports, the tusker was crossing the railway tracks when it was hit by the Guwahati-bound train in the Jagiroad-Aujuri stretch at 6.20 AM. As per the Northeast Frontier Railway sources, the area is not a notified elephant corridor.


Many animals are being forced to leave their habitats inundated by the flood waters in search of food and higher ground.  According to reports, the ongoing flood in the state has claimed 163 animals in the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve alone.
