GUWAHATI: Electric train services are set to begin soon in Assam. The electric train will run from New Bongaigaon to Rangia from March. This was told to G Plus by Public Relation Officer (PRO) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Nripen Bhattacharyya.
Subsequently, another train is expected to run from Guwahati from May/June onwards to as far as Lumding and Dibrugarh. The electric train services will be for both the passenger and goods trains.

The efforts of electrification are to reduce pollution and travel time duration in Assam.
Amid the attempts, there are still challenges ahead for the state with the proposal for the two-track line.
