GUWAHATI: An idol maker from Dhubri, Assam has made a Durga idol from just using tablets and other medical products.
Sanjib Basak has spent about two months to create the idol of Goddess Durga using over 30,000 expired capsules and syringes. The inspiration came to Basak while engaging in COVID-19 duty when he saw everyone's dependency on medicines and other pharmaceuticals.
Basak has intent behind the usage of tablets. He wanted to spread the message of utilising the waste and expired parts to maintain ecological balance in nature.
"I also hope that along with that, we find a vaccine after Durga Puja and that's the reason I used medicines," Basak told G Plus.
Sanjib Basak has earned considerable fame for his talent with even an entry in the Assam Book of Record in 2019, when he made a Durga idol using waste electrical wires weighing 166 kilograms. However, he is a Disaster Management Field Officer by profession.
On being asked about his inspiration to pursue idol making, he reverted that, "I am a student of fine arts. I pursue arts and I am forever a student."
