The driver reportedly identified as Usman, caused chaos as he sped through the crowded lanes of the city, colliding with a motorcycle, a scooter, and at least three other vehicles in quick succession. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic, with pedestrians running for safety as the car swerved dangerously through the narrow streets around 9:15 PM.
Initially, two victims reportedly succumbed to their injuries soon after being rushed to the hospital. A third victim died on Tuesday morning, raising the death toll to three. The deceased have been reportedly identified as Mamta Kanwar (50), Awadhesh Pareek (37), and Virendra Singh.
Before the fatal crash, the car had already hit several vehicles, and the driver fled the scene, causing additional accidents at three separate spots. Eventually, enraged locals managed to stop the vehicle, pulled Usman from the car, and beat him up before handing him over to the police.
Police reportedly confirmed the driver was intoxicated at the time of the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
