“Plans are underway to remove the power of issuing driving license from DTO offices and establish Accredited Driver Training Centres and  Automated Driver Testing Tracks. The institute will be equipped with machines and facilities. Driving test will be held and the institute itself will issue the license,” Assam chief minister said at a press conference after the cabinet meeting.

The cabinet has approved establishment of 126 -- assembly constituencies -- driving institutes. The Transport Department will prepare detailed guidelines to oversee the implementation of these centres.

Currently, five ADTCs are under construction in Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Biswanath, Barpeta, and Kamrup Rural, and are expected to be operational within the next five months.
