GUWAHATI: In a bid to expedite the process of justice delivery, the Assam Cabinet has approved a proposal to delegate the power to appoint a Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) under Section 24(8) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to the District Commissioner.

This decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting on March 1, 2024.
The Cabinet's approval entails delegating the authority to appoint Special Public Prosecutor to the District Commissioner.
