Dispur Circle Office Mandal Caught Red-Handed While Taking Bribe

GUWAHATI: A Mandal of the Dispur Revenue Circle Office, Guwahati was caught  red handed by the Assam ACB Team on October 11 for accepting a bribe of Rs 8000.

The accused has been identified as Lachit Thakuria.

According to a press statement from the Directorate of vigilance and anticorruption, following a complaint by Parag Chandra Bhagawati, who was being asked to pay money for clearing some sale permissions.

The complainant had applied for obtaining sale permission for six residential flats to the Office of the DC Kamrup (M) through the Circle Officer Dispur. The said sale permissions were recorded at the office of the Circle Office (CO) on 05-03-2019. But the concerned dealing mandal namely Lachit Thakuria adamant in demanding bribe money amount to Rs. 8,000/- for each  flat sale permission basis.

As the complainant was unwilling to pay the bribe money, he approached the ACB PS in the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, Guwahati and accordingly a trap was laid down as per standard   procedure in the matter of ACB PS Case No. 12/2019 dated 01/10/2019 U/S 7(a) of the PC Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) and led to his arrest today while accepting the bribe amount. 

The 57-year old Lachit Thakuria hails from Palasbari and had been looking after the Bormotoria, Sarumotoria and Rukminigaon areas under the Dispur Circle Office.

The bribe money has been seized from the possession of the accused and connected documents have also been seized from the Circle Officer, Dispur Revenue Circle, Basistha, Guwahati.

Further investigative steps are being taken and the accused will be forwarded to the CJM Court Guwahati today.
