GUWAHATI: In support of several demands, including the transparent and fair recruitment of 513 posts by May 10, continuing with the Deendayal Divyang Pension Scheme, Pratibandhi Suraksha Santha Assam (PSSA) staged a massive protest in Guwahati on Tuesday.
The union protested before the Assam Public Service Commission entrance in Khanapara and shouted slogans against the government.
The protestors clashed with the police when the latter tried to stop the peaceful rally that started at around 12-30 PM.
Talking to G Plus, PSSA secretary Nripen Malakar said, "We have been opposing the merger of disability pension funds with the Arunodoi scheme since the beginning. Even after submitting a memorandum to the Chief Minister on March 1, some disabled persons were included in the Arunodoi scheme without any prior intimidation."
"Because of such mergers, many eligible persons receiving disability pensions were deprived of their pensions. We will not accept this at all," Malakar added.
He also informed that according to Section 24 of the Disabled Persons Act, 2016, an additional 25 per cent of the maximum amount paid in government schemes in the state is to be paid to disabled persons.
"If that is the case, a person should get ₹1,563 each instead of ₹1,250 in Arunodoi. Instead, some people with disabilities are being paid only ₹1,250," Malakar added.
