GUWAHATI: Shigeki Awai, also known as Shigenori Awai, a revered Japanese animator and director, has passed away at the age of 71.

Anime News Centre announced his passing on March 19, highlighting his decades-long contribution to the anime industry. Awai’s career spanned from the 1980s, during which he worked as a key animator and later as an episode director, shaping the visual storytelling of countless beloved series.
Awai is known for making important contributions to numerous anime franchises. His extensive work includes fan favourites such as Naruto: Shippuden, Bokuto: Naruto Next Generations, One Punch Man, Black Clover, My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, One Piece, Detective Conan, Doraemon, Bungo Stray Dogs, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Kuroko’s Basketball, Haikyu!!, Food Wars!, and Mobile Suit Gundam.
