US President Trump Replaces Obama Portrait In White House; New Painting Depicts Assassination Attempt

GUWAHATI: US President Donald Trump has replaced the official portrait of former President Barack Obama in the White House’s entrance hallway with a new painting depicting himself surviving an assassination attempt. The portrait change has drawn widespread attention due to its political symbolism and timing.

The White House shared a video of the new artwork on social media platform X on Saturday, April 12, with the caption, "Some new artwork at the White House."

The painting shows Trump moments after the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, raising his fist in defiance. The image and the phrase "fight, fight, fight" became central to his current presidential campaign.

Meanwhile, Obama’s portrait, unveiled in 2022 by then-President Joe Biden, has been relocated to a position previously occupied by George W. Bush’s portrait, which now rests by the staircase. The reshuffle of portraits has marked another example of Trump’s unconventional approach to White House decorum.

Presidential portraits have long been a tradition, dating back to George Washington. Typically, they are displayed after a president leaves office. Trump's decision to feature his own portrait before the conclusion of his presidency deviates from established norms. His previous actions include displaying a gold-framed version of his mugshot outside the Oval Office and unveiling a bronze sculpture of his reaction to the attempted assassination at Mar-a-Lago.
