GUWAHATI: Arman Ali, the executive director of New Delhi-based National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), had to face unfortunate moments when he was physically lifted on his wheelchair by a group of four people to his booth which was situated on the first floor of a building in Guwahati.

The video and images of the incident, shared by Ali on twitter, went viral, belying the ECI’s claim to ‘Leave No Voter Behind’ and making voting accessible to all.

Terming the incident as shameful and humiliating, Ali said that when he went to polling booth number 156 where he is registered as a voter to cast his mandate in the early hours, he found that the booth was located at the first floor of a primary school building.

He waited for hours to get assistance, but got none. Ali said that the booth level officers manning the station offered no assistance and that it was only after the CEO Assam’s intervention that Ali was asked to return to the polling station in the evening to cast his vote.

Upon returning to the station, Ali was lifted by four people and carried to the first floor where he cast his vote.
