GUWAHATI: Despite the assurance of Guwahati Mayor, Mrigen Sarania, residents of the city in many areas are still receiving muddy water from Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).  Residents from Lamb Road, Uzanbazar and Kharghuli have complained that the water they are receiving from the GMC remains muddy.

Around a week ago, talking to the media, Mayor Sarania assured residents that the filters were being cleaned and it would take two to three days to get clean water. If we go by the Mayor’s assurance citizens would have received clean water by Sunday. But there seems to be a delay.

“We are still receiving the same muddy water. We are very disappointed,” complained a resident of Lamb road.

Another resident from Uzanbazar, Amit Baruah told G Plus, “Water is not completely clean. People are very much struggling now.” A week ago, Amit Baruah told to G Plus that they had been receiving muddy water for two weeks. Baruah was worried that the health of the people would deteriorate because of the unhygienic water.

The condition of the GMC supply water in the area of Kharghuli has improved, but it is not clean completely. Regarding this, a resident of Kharghuli, T Saikia who had also talked with G Plus before, said, “The water we are receiving has improved a bit but not completely. We are still buying water from other sources.”

Regarding this, Guwahati Mayor, Mrigen Sarania told G Plus, “As I said before, filters are under the process of cleaning. This might take two to three days more.”

On the other hand, Talking to G Plus, the Assistant engineer of Panbazar and Satpukhuri Water Supply treatment plant Hemanta Kalita said that the filtration process has been completed on Monday, May 30. People would receive clean water, from now on. When G Plus informed him that people are still receiving muddy water, Kalita said, “The reason behind residents of some particular areas not receiving clean water is the existing muddy water in the lines. Once the existing water washes out, they will start receiving clean water.

Moreover, the GMC has also sent workers to different areas to rectify the problems.”
