As per media reports, Islam recounted that he had a delivery to make at Geetanagar Path and upon arrival, a woman came to receive the order, which was cash on delivery. She paid him ₹500 for the order, but Islam informed her that he did not have change for ₹500. The woman suggested he process the change online, but Islam didn't have sufficient funds in his account to do so. He explained that he couldn't provide the exact change. She then gave him ₹350 in cash, but Islam pointed out that this was ₹18 short of the amount due.

Things escalated quickly when two men suddenly appeared and confronted Islam, dragging him by his helmet. Islam managed to leave the scene and immediately reported the issue to Zomato customer care, but says he did not receive a proper response. He then contacted his team leader, providing the order number and ID. A few minutes later, while Islam was on the roadside about 600 meters from the customer's location, the same two youths, identified as Kishore Barman and Bitu Sharma, confronted him again on a two-wheeler and attacked him.

Talking to GPlus, an official from Noonmati police station said, "Two individuals were detained on Thursday, but have since been released on bail."
