GUWAHATI: A prohibitory order has been issued for the Dispur Capital Complex in Guwahati, effective December 19, 2024, to maintain public order and prevent disruptions. The order restricts gatherings of more than five people, protests, processions, and the shouting of slogans within a one-kilometer radius of the complex, unless authorised by authorities.

The order, signed by Mrinal Deka, Deputy Commissioner of Police for the East Police District, on Wednesday, December 18, comes after intelligence reports indicated that certain groups may try to disrupt government functions, create traffic congestion, or disturb public peace. These restrictions are being implemented as a preventive measure to ensure smooth traffic, uninterrupted government operations, and overall public tranquility.

Authorities have emphasised that anyone dissatisfied with the order can file a written objection before the Deputy Commissioner for potential modification or cancellation. The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Surakshya Sanhita, 2023, will remain in effect until further notice.
