Darrang Police Officials Arrested In Dhula Minor Girl Murder Case

 

GUWAHATI: The then Superintendent of Police (SP), Darrang, Raj Mohan Ray APS, has been arrested by Criminal Investigation Department (CID). CID has collected evidence that Ray received a bribe from the kin of the main accused, Krishna Kamal Baruah in the minor girl child murder case in Dhula, Darrang. Ray has allegedly attempted to shield the accused and dilute the case. 

He has been arrested in a fresh case registered by CID Assam under the Prevention of Corruption Act, vide CID P.S. Case No. 20/2022 U/S 120B/420/218 IPC RW Sec 7(b), (8)1)0i) of P.C. Act 1988 (as amended in 2018). He is being produced before the Special Judge Court, Guwahati and remand is being sought for further interrogation.

The bank account statements of the family of the main accused, the Call Detail Record (CDR), tower location, and Geo Location mapping analyses have been closely examined. Moreover, all the relevant witnesses have come on record that SP Darrang has received an amount of ₹2 lakh from the family of the accused through the then Officer-In-Charge (OC) Dhula Police Station (PS) for extending undue favours to the main accused in relation to the murder case. 

During the investigation, CID examined the dead body again and got a second post-mortem conducted. A panel of forensic medical experts was consulted and on conducting the DNA profiling, found the fluids on the clothes of the victim girl matched with the main accused. Accordingly, the detailed charge sheet has been filed on September 25, 2022, against the main accused Krishna Kamal Baruah, who is presently in Judicial Custody. 

OC Dhula PS, Sub-Inspector (SI) Utpal Borah, was arrested on October 31 and remanded to Judicial Custody after custodial interrogation. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Rupam Phukan, APS was also arrested on November 7, 2022, and is presently in police custody for detailed interrogation. The other accused Ashirvad Hazarika, the Magistrate whose role has also come on record is absconding. CID has also conducted searches at the residences of the arrested OC, Additional SP, and the SP, and certain incriminating materials were seized.
