Dancers From Various Districts In Assam To Be Selected For Record Setting Bihu Celebration

GUWAHATI: 11,140 Bihu dancers will be participating in the international level Bohag Bihu celebrations which will be held on April 14, announced Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today during a press conference.

The bihu dancers will be selected from various districts of Assam which will constitute 70% women and 30% men. 

1400 dancers will be selected from Dibrugarh, 500 from Tinsukia, 800 from Sivasagar, 400 from Charaideo, 800 from Jorhat, 400 from Dhemaji, 700 from Lakhimpur, 50 from West Karbi Anglong, 50 from Dima Hasao, 50 from Dhubri, 100 from Bongaigaon, 200 from Majuli, 100 from Kokrajhar, 20 from South Salmara, 100 from Barpeta, 800 from Kamrup Metro, 300 from Nalbari, 600 from Kamrup, 200 from Morigaon, 750 from Nagaon, 1000 from Golaghat, 200 from Goalpara, 200 from Darrang, 1100 from Sonitpur, 20 from Cachar, 20 from Karimganj, 50 from Hailakandi, 100 from Udalguri, 50 from Baksa and 40 from Chirang.

The selection of the dancers will be held from March 1 to 27 after which district-level training will be provided to the dancers from March 27 to April 1, announced CM. The Bihu dancers will be selected from an age group of 15-35 years with prior Bihu dancing experience.

The participants will also be given an amount of ₹3000 to aid them in acquiring the traditional bihu attire and ₹1000 each day during the rehearsals.

On April 14, over 11,000 bihu dancers will be taking part in the celebration to create a record in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be attending the record-setting Bohag Bihu celebration which will be held in Guwahati.
