Cyclone 'AMPHAN' to Hit Kamrup (M) District 'at Any Moment'

GUWAHATI: The Indian Meteorological Department stated that the Cyclone 'AMPHAN' may hit Kamrup Metropolitan District at any moment from now.

A notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner Kamrup (M) reads, "There is a strong likelihood of a widespread effect of Cyclone. Hence, all the Head of line departments may keep their officials and equipment ready to tackle any situation that may arise during and after the Cyclone. People of the District are also requested to keep themselves ready to face the Cyclone and to be careful in dealing with the situation."

The release further stated that all emergency requirements may checked immediately and may be kept in readiness accordingly. APDCL, FOREST, Telecom Services, Fire and Emergency Services SDRF, MD Building and Roads Departments will ensure 24X7 readiness of their staff and machinery to deal with the immediate requirements.

According to the latest bulletin, CYCLONE ‘AMPHAN’ is crossing West Bengal between Digha and Hatiya across Sunderban. Further, half of the eye of the cyclone has entered land area and the entire eye will be over land within next one hour.

Moderate rain/thundershowers is very likely to occur at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura. 

Strong surface wind (speed 30-40 KMPH) over South Assam, West Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram & Tripura from tonight.

Warning

1) Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind with speed(40-50) KMPH is very likely to occur at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya. 

2)Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind with speed(30-40) KMPH is very likely to occur at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.

3) Heavy to very heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya especially western districts.

4) Heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.
