Cyber Criminal Dupes Guwahati Residents In the Name of Kiranshree Sweets

GUWAHATI: Many residents in Guwahati have fallen prey to a cybercrime recently. A fraudster, after hacking the website of Kiranshree Sweets and Snacks, Aathgaon added a mobile number in their page.

Many Guwahati residents ordered sweets and paid to the number. Three people approached G Plus to file complaints and raise awareness regarding this. The number 070051 86702 is displayed on Kiranshree’s website and people have lost money by ordering through the number.

A woman from Aathgaon ordered sweets by calling the number and was duped of Rs 349. She was asked Rs 9402 more to pay, but she refused to pay as she felt something was fishy. Speaking to G Plus, the woman said, "I ordered sweets by calling the number that was shown in their website. A call came from the number. The person on the other end called me and told my husband that I have to register. Then he said, he had sent a link, where there was a sign showing the rupee symbol, where I had to type 9402 and press the pay button. According to him, it was just a code and no money would be deducted. I felt something amiss. My husband typed the amount, and the moment he was about to press the pay button I stopped him. I thought of confirming this. My husband went to the shop and asked about it. They said that the number did not belong to them. Kiranshree has also filed a complaint to the Police."

She further added, "Later, I found that this was not the first incident. Another friend of mine was also duped."

Another man came with a complaint that he had booked a room in the Kiranshree hotel. When he reached there, the hotel manager informed that there was no booking. When he enquired, the manager said that the number did not belong to the hotel.

Another customer Rohit Kamble told G Plus, "I lost Rs 1100 as I ordered sweets by calling the number. I received a link and was asked to pay Rs 40 thousand. I understood their trick. I went to the sweets store and asked about it. The manager said the number did not belong to them. I think I will approach the police regarding this."

When G Plus visited the Kiranshree Sweets and Snacks, the manager said, "We filed a complaint on October 11. Several customers came with complaints. Our account is hacked which is why we can't delete the number from the system. We are not sure what the Police is doing."

G Plus contacted the Bharalumukh Police and enquired about the matter. An official said they had informed the Crime Branch regarding this. The investigation is undergoing. Soon the culprit would come in their hand.

Further details are awaited.
