Customer alleges city restaurant of serving stale food; restaurant files FIR for defamation

GUWAHATI: Kareem's, a city based restaurant was recently in news for allegedly serving stale food.

The issue came to light after a customer, Prasanna Saikia updated a post on Facebook about his dining experience in the restaurant. According to the post, Prasanna, and his family members who went for dinner to the restaurant were served stale meat.

Prasanna's wife, Kongkona Medhi, who is an advocate by profession, while speaking to G Plus said, "We ordered dishes like Murg Musallam, Mutton Rogan Josh and Chicken Biryani among others. The meat they served was completely rotten and was giving away a rotten smell. The spoon they kept on the table was unwashed too. It had stains of previous customer's food. We looked for a manager or owner of the restaurant asking for a clarification. To this, a waiter suggested to make cordial settlement on the issue among the two parties. No manager or owner could be seen in the restaurant."

The customer further alleged that the kitchen of the restaurant lies in a filthy condition and meat pieces were kept on the floor. The customer has also filed an FIR against Kareem's at Dispur Police Station. A case has been registered, numbered 1904/18 under section 270/273 IPC.

However, the management at Kareem's had a different version of the story.

According to the management, the customers had made the complaint after finishing their food, and that has been recorded well in the CCTV cameras of the restaurant.

The management doubt this to be a pre-planned action. The owner of Kareems's Alen Ahmed has lodged an FIR (case 1944/18 of section 294/506 IPC) against the customer, Kongkona Medhi on charges of defamation.
