COVID-19: Kamrup (M) Reports 649 New Cases in 24 Hours, State Tally Nears 20,000 Mark

GUWAHATI: Kamrup Metro happens to be the worst affected district in the state and is the new COVID-19 hotspot of the region with over 75 percent of the active cases in Assam from the district.

Assam reported 1,088 new cases of COVID-19 with 649 detected in Guwahati city alone, as per state health minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma's Twitter update.

“1088 new #COVID19 ve+ patients in Assam, 649 in Guwahati alone. Stay at home. Stay fit. Stay safe!” tweeted the minister at 11:50 PM on July 15.

With this increase in numbers, total COVID-19 cases in the state have gone up to 19,754, of which, 6,815 are active and the remaining 12,888 have recovered. The death toll in the state by the infectious disease stands at 48. 

The percentage of patients cured of the disease so far is 65 whereas, only 34 percent of the total cases are now active in Assam.

The district has been under a 21-day lockdown since 29th June. Meanwhile, certain relaxations have been announced in Kamrup Metro for people to be able to procure essentials.
